A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING MRS. DEBORAH L. NEWMAN ON BEING NAMED THE 1999 MISSISSIPPI TEACHER OF THE YEAR.
WHEREAS, Mrs. Deborah L. Newman, a lady with 27 years of teaching experience, was named the 1999 Mississippi Teacher of the Year; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Newman, a native of Baldwyn, Mississippi, graduated from Western Illinois University in 1972 with a bachelor of science degree in education; and
WHEREAS, in 1972, Mrs. Newman took her first job as a teacher in Guntown, Mississippi, teaching the first grade in all subject areas; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Newman also taught the fourth grade in all subject areas in Mooreville, Mississippi, for 20 years, and she currently teaches integrated reading and social studies to a class of sixth graders in Mooreville; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Newman, a dedicated teacher, is also a faithful wife and mother who has participated in PTA programs and Booster Clubs and is actively involved in her church; and
WHEREAS, during her teaching career, Mrs. Newman has served two years on the Superintendent's County Advisory Board, represented the school on several textbook adoption committees, and she has chaired and served on curriculum development committees; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Newman has been lovingly supported in all her endeavors by her husband, James, and their daughter, Jaimie; and WHEREAS, the Legislature of the State of Mississippi finds it most appropriate to recognize and commend outstanding educators such as Mrs. Deborah L. Newman, a lady who has dedicated over 27 years of her life to teaching the young people of this state, who are its future:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Mrs. Deborah L. Newman, on being named the 1999 Mississippi Teacher of the Year and express our deepest appreciation for her service as an elementary school teacher in this state.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Mrs. Deborah L. Newman, Mooreville Elementary School and members of the Capitol Press Corps.
